BAKING WITH CBD

CBD and baking.

Many people are turning to CBD edibles as their method of medication. They are easy to find on the market and easy to make at home. In the shop, you can find CBD infused honey and peanut butter. However, if you prefer to be the chef, you can use CBD oils and powder to create your own hemp masterpiece.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant.  It indirectly interacts with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is the system in charge of homeostasis. This means that it regulates your body and mind.

The method of conversation CBD uses when talking to the ECS is through pathways. This makes it impossible for it to have a psycho-active effect like its more known partner in the hemp plant, THC. If you are worried that CBD will get you or your loved on high, that is not the case. If you are trying to get that euphoric feeling, CBD is not how you do it.

CBD is becoming well known for its health benefits that range from anxiety to arthritis. Its interaction with the ECS is why it is such a versatile medicine. Your ECS could be malfunctioning for many different reasons. You could just plain be born with a chemical imbalance, or a disease could have crept up in the night and taken control. When your ECS is malfunctioning, CBD can help control it. It blocks neurotransmitters that are in overabundance and helps elevate the ones that are lacking in numbers. This results in mood regulation, pain moderation, and even skin diseases like eczema get relief.

CBD contains analgesic effects, which makes it an excellent painkiller. CBD elevates a compound in your brain called anandamide, which helps regulate pain. CBD is ever more popular in the chronic pain community, because of its efficiency and safety. Unlike leading narcotics, CBD is not fatally addictive and is safe for even children and seniors to use.

Why Edibles?

Edibles are popular because of their long-lasting effects. Foods like cookies and brownies infused with Cannabidiol are absorbed into your stomach to produce the long-term effects. When done correctly, you have the perfect dose inside each item of food for the day, making medication convenient and easy.

CBD Edibles are perfect for patients with mood disorders, pain, and intestinal issues like Crohn's Disease. By being absorbed straight into the GI tract, it can help prepare to ease your afflicted areas so you can withstand eating more food. Its long-lasting effects can help patients with mood disorders feel stable throughout the day and works longer than many narcotics patients use for pain.

Tips for Baking With CBD Oil

Using already made CBD oil is the easiest way to create your perfect edible masterpiece. However, there are some things you need to keep in mind. If done incorrectly, you can lose a lot of the CBD’s potency, making your edibles less useful.

TEMPERATURE

The boiling point for CBD is 320°-356°F. If you cook at a temperature higher than this, you risk evaporating some of the CBD, making your medicinal baked goods lose potency.

SERVING SIZE

Be sure to keep serving sizes in mind when adding the CBD oil to your recipe. By putting 100mg of CBD in brownies that make a serving of 24, each brownie will only have 4mg of CBD in it. This amount is great if that is what you are looking for, but not great if you need 50mg of CBD to function correctly throughout the day; keep in mind serving sizes.

STORAGE

When you mix your CBD oil with the ingredient that you are going to use for cooking like vegetable oil or butter, it is advised you store it in a cool dark place. Same goes for the food when you finish making it. CBD is sensitive to light and heat, so you could damage your edibles by exposing them to too much light or warmth for extended periods of time.

How To Bake With CBD Oil

The first thing you need to do is pick your recipe that has a fatty ingredient like oil or butter. CBD is fat soluble and needs the fat to work. This is the time you have to keep in mind serving size because you are going to mix your hemp oil with the fatty ingredient. If you have 1 gram of oil that is 25% CBD (250mg) and you are putting that into eight tablespoons of butter, remember if your recipe only calls for four tablespoons you are only getting 125mg divided by all of the servings you are making.

To mix your CBD with your fatty ingredient, just stir them together. If you have a fat ingredient that needs to be hot, make sure that it does not reach CBD’s boiling point. You do not want to damage the CBD before you even get a chance to put it in the food!

After putting your recipe together, you bake it below the CBD boiling point. You might have to cook for longer than the recipe suggests, make sure to note what temperature the recipe asks for if it is higher than the boiling point.

If you have people in your home who can both benefit from CBD but need different doses, you might want to try using toppings. Just bake the CBD edibles to the lower dose, and add CBD peanut butter or CBD Infused Honey to top it off for a higher dose. It adds a delicious flavor as well as a more potent medication. Why CBD loves fat

CBD, like all cannabinoids, is lipophilic – meaning that it loves to cling to fat. The cannabinoids are most easily and readily absorbed when paired with a fat, such as coconut oil or olive oil (1). This is why you will find most CBD recipes use these infused oils.

Because CBD is a natural supplement, it is very important to pair it with a healthy diet for the best health outcomes!

A diet full of processed and fried foods creates an imbalance in the body and the inability of your body to receive all the amazing benefits of CBD. Remember a healthy diet, is a diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds.

You can find CBD oil in three different variations; full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate. It is important to understand the difference before purchasing, so you can make the best decision possible.

Full Spectrum. Full-spectrum cannabis means that all of the naturally occurring cannabinoids found in the mature growing plant are still present in the final processed product. Full-spectrum products also contain the other important compounds that the cannabis plant contains including the terpenes, flavonoids, and more.

Broad Spectrum.  Broad-spectrum products contain a range of many different kinds of cannabinoids and terpenes found within the plant, but not all of the compounds naturally found within the plant. Broad-spectrum CBD oil contains the same compounds as the full-spectrum oil, however, the THC has been physically separated out, leaving no trace amounts of that specific cannabinoid.

*Broad-Spectrum products are ideal for users who cannot have any trace of THC in their system, whether it be for a job, passing a drug test, or personal reasons.
